Election Regulation of NAOP (as per NAOP Constitution, 2019)

Elections

The Election Committee shall ensure complete transparency in terms of procedures and strive for attaining highest standards of democracy in the organization. It will seek to ensure that the Academy is led by a set of visionary professionals representing different knowledge domains of Psychology and geographical regions of the country as far as possible.

i. The Election Committee shall invite by email nominations for the following positions that will be falling vacant in the following year:

(a) President

(b) Secretary-General

(c) Treasurer

(d) Chair of the Publications Committee

(e) Members-at-Large. The nominations will be sought on a prescribed form approved by the Committee.

ii. The Election Committee will draw a complete schedule of elections for that year and give the dates for the following steps:

(a) Call for nominations/applications

(b) Submission of nominations/applications to Election Committee

(c) Scrutiny and Preparation of the Slate

(d) Electronic and/or Mail Voting

(e) Declaration of Results

Qualifications:

Common to all candidates:

A candidate seeking an office will certify that s/he has

(1) no conflict of interest especially financial

(2) been a Member of NAOP for the last 5 years

(3) no history of ethical misconduct

Specific to position:

President – A candidate for the post of President will be a Distinguished Professor/Professional who is recognized for contributions to Psychological Sciences in terms of teaching, research, and/or service and has served NAOP as an office bearer.

Secretary-General and Treasurer – A candidate contesting for the post of Secretary-General or Treasurer will be a Recognized Academician/Professional who has been a member of the EC and should have contributed to Psychological Sciences in terms of teaching, research, and/or service.

Chair of Publications Committee – A candidate for the chair of publications committee will be a Recognized Academician/Professional who has contributed to Psychological Sciences through research and has experience of being on the editorial board of reputed journals and/or of editing volumes.

Members-at-Large – Candidates will be Recognized Academicians/Professionals who have contributed to Psychological Sciences in teaching, research, and/or service.
